Silver Alert Legislation Passes in Michigan

Dear Christina,

We asked – and you delivered.

On Friday, the Michigan State Legislature passed the Silver Alert legislation!

The legislation will now head to the Governor and she’s expected to sign the bill into law.

This is a great victory that was made possible by the relentless action of our advocates here in Michigan.

This was not an easy victory.

It took many years of action for us to achieve this outcome, but in the end our advocate’s stories and passion won.

This Silver Alert legislation will provide law enforcement the ability to notify the public by text message of a missing senior or vulnerable adult.

Around 6 in 10 people with dementia will wander. Wandering can quickly become life threatening due to exposure, traffic hazards, dehydration, or confusion. The first 24 hours are critical in safely recovering a missing vulnerable adult. Silver Alerts are designed to quickly locate missing older adults, especially those with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or other cognitive impairments.

We’d like to thank our sponsors of the Silver Alert legislation, State Senator Mallory McMorrow (D) and State Representative Gina Johnsen (R), for their leadership in passing this important legislation.

We thank you for your support and passion.
